LMMS - lmms tutorial

LMMS (formerly Linux MultiMedia Studio) is digital audio workstation software. When LMMS is executed on a computer with appropriate hardware, music can be produced by synthesizing sounds, arranging samples, playing on a MIDI keyboard, and combining the features of trackers, sequencers, and synthesizers. It supports Linux Audio Developer's Simple Plugin API (LADSPA), SoundFont (SF2) files, and Virtual Studio Technology (VST) plugins. It is free software released under the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPLv2).

Software overview

System requirements

LMMS is available for multiple operating systems, including GNU/Linux, OpenBSD, OS X and Windows. It requires a 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM and a two-channel sound card.

Program features

LMMS accepts soundfonts in SF2 format and GUS patches. It can also import Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI), hydrogen and FL Studio project (FLP) files. It can also write and read customized presets, samples and themes. The audio can be exported primarily in MIDI, OGG and WAV formats, and the projects are saved in .mmpz file format.
